A meeting was held with Mr. Rashid Islam Mughal, Chairman of the Town Committee Sanghar, and Mr. Mumtaz Mangi, District Project Manager of the HANDS-ASHA Independent Living Centre (ILC) Sanghar. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the situation of persons with disabilities in the district and explore ways to strengthen support mechanisms for their inclusion and empowerment.
During the discussion, several challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Sanghar were highlighted. These included barriers to mobility and accessibility, difficulties in accessing public services, limited awareness regarding their rights and entitlements, and inadequate opportunities for skill development and employment. The participants acknowledged that these challenges continue to hinder the full participation of persons with disabilities in social and economic life.
Mr. Mumtaz Mangi briefed the participants on the ongoing initiatives and services being provided through the Independent Living Centre Sanghar. He explained that the centre plays a vital role in empowering persons with disabilities through training and skill development programs designed to enhance their independence and livelihood opportunities. He further shared that the centre facilitates access to disability certificates, national identity cards, and government support schemes, enabling persons with disabilities to benefit from available services and entitlements. In addition, the centre actively promotes social inclusion and independent living, encouraging persons with disabilities to participate fully in community life.
Mr. Rashid Islam Mughal appreciated the efforts of the Independent Living Centre and recognized its significance as a unique institution dedicated to supporting and empowering persons with disabilities in the district. He commended the services being provided and acknowledged the positive impact of the centre on the lives of its beneficiaries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Mughal expressed his willingness to extend cooperation and support for the sustainability and further strengthening of the activities of the Independent Living Centre Sanghar. The meeting ended on a positive note, with a shared commitment to promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with disabilities in the district.
